To the drum beat of a steady rain, a streak of dreamless nights is
broken. A veritable variety show filled with forgotton faces and
special guest star walk-ons. Incongruent scenes that take place in twinkling cities,
classrooms, at the Yale boathouse, on Church street, in rooms that are hazy
approximations of places I've lived. And the whole extravaganza draws to a close with a
conversation I never have with someone I admire. Wake beside an
open window and gray and groan all the way to breakfast.
