We continue with our survey of freaky old New England burial grounds. To find this week's boneyard you'll need to walk about a mile into the woods. Walk along an old fieldstone wall and try to imagine when these dense woods were not here, when these stone walls divided vast fields on the rolling land. After a walking a good distance you'll see a curious site along the crumbling wall. It's a little gate only knee-high. It has a tiny latch. You'll wonder why it's there out in the middle of the woods and you'll look up and realize you are here. There are 6 crooked, overgrown headstones, the last of which was set in 1842. One has toppled over completely and lies hidden in the underbrush. All belong to the same family. Sawyer. As you read the erroded epitaphs you wonder if anyone ever visits this place. And when you notice the sun is dipping low, you hustle the hell out of there at a brisk pace.
